At The All Progressives Congress Convention World Media Briefing Held On Thursday, March 26, 2026, At The Transcorp Hilton, Abuja
Distinguished members of the Fourth Estate, good afternoon.
Thank you for being a part of this major media briefing as we count down to a significant moment for the All Progressives Congress (APC), unarguably Africa’s largest political family.
The APC will hold its 8th National Convention in Abuja this weekend, starting tomorrow, Friday, the 27th of March, and ending on Saturday, the 28th of March, 2026.
The convention will bring together delegates from across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory for policy engagement, leadership elections, and a formal transition to a new set of party executives—representing both a decision-making platform and a moment of reflection, consolidation, and directionsetting for the next phase of our journey.
This briefing, therefore, is meant to share the purpose, readiness, and values behind the momentous event.
Our convention theme says it clearly: “Unity in Progress — Consolidating the Renewed Hope Agenda.” This theme is not just a slogan. It is a concise statement of who we are, where we have come from, and where we intend to go; aligning internal party processes with the country’s broader governance vision, and projectingcontinuity, cohesion, and clarity of purpose.
Let me briefly walk through what this convention represents, why it matters, and how the party has prepared.
The APC was founded on the idea that diverse progressive forces could unite for national development, democratic values, and inclusive governance. From the start, the party has been a platform for reform, national cohesion, and purposeful leadership. That founding vision matters today because it provides the compass that guides our actions and decisions.
Over the years, the APC has grown and adapted. We have remained a leading political force through multiple electoral cycles and complex national moments.
Through every turn, the party has kept its focus on stability, progress, and governance. This resilience is a source of strength for the party and for the country.
One of the clearest tests of a mature party is how it manages change. Through past conventions and leadership transitions, the APC has demonstrated its ability to manage change in a structured, orderly manner.
Over time, the APC has strengthened its internal governance. Clear rules, accountability, and broad stakeholder participation are now embedded in our processes. This gives us a more stable and predictable structure, better able to handle growth, diversity, and the high expectations of Nigerians.
The forthcoming national convention marks another milestone in our journey, reflecting both the continuity of our values and the renewal of our leadership. It offers an opportunity to highlight the party’s achievements under His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and to show how our guiding vision is being transformed into tangible outcomes for Nigerians.
The Renewed Hope Agenda remains central. It guides policy direction, national development, and engagement with Nigerians’ aspirations. The convention is also an opportunity to deepen this agenda within our leadership and institutional structure, ensuring that the party and government remain aligned in purpose.
The APC will continue to be a broadbased political platform, accommodating diverse perspectives while maintaining unity of purpose.
That diversity is not a weakness. It is a strength anchored in commitment to progress and national development.
All arrangements have been concluded for a smooth, transparent, and credible convention at the iconic Eagle Square, Abuja, as stated in the official notice. Committees have finalised assignments, and operational systems are set to ensure coordination, efficiency, and order. Every detail has been attended to so that the convention proceeds without avoidable disruption.
This is not just a routine exercise. It is a demonstration of the APC’s commitment to democratic practice, organisational discipline, and collective decision-making. It is a clear sign of the party’s maturity as a responsible political institution.
As the convention approaches, the APC reaffirms unity. Cohesion and collective responsibility are essential to the party’s growth and relevance. The APC is united in purpose, focused on strengthening its foundation and advancing its ideals for the nation.
We assure Nigerians and the world that this convention and its proceedings will meet the high standards expected of a responsible and mature political institution; displaying discipline, organisation, and respect for democratic norms. This is the face of a party ready to lead and engage constructively, both at home and abroad. We are ready.
We remain immensely grateful to our leader, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR—not only for his indelible contributions to Nigeria’s democratic journey, but also for his pivotal role in the founding and growth of the APC.
We recognise and salute his tireless work in fortifying our big tent, giving every party member a sense of belonging, steering the ship of state with visionary policies, and providing bold, democratic and progressive direction for Nigeria, Africa and the black race.
I thank you for your attention. God bless the All Progressives Congress (APC), God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
